MSUvote
MSUvote continued to build on its mission to empower student voters and increase democratic participation throughout the 2024–2025 academic year. The committee’s work focused on nonpartisan voter education, coalition building, and fostering a culture of civic engagement across campus.
In the fall, MSUvote hosted registration drives, student group visits, and residence hall outreach, engaging more than 1,200 students in direct voter engagement efforts. The team collaborated with local election officials to ensure students had access to accurate voting information and helped guide first-time voters through the registration and absentee ballot process.
This year marked continued recognition for MSU’s national leadership in student democratic engagement. The university was recognized as a 2024 Most Engaged Campus for College Student Voting by the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge. MSUvote was represented at the White House by Initiatives Programming Intern Aiden Bourgeau, who was nominated by ALL IN for his work in youth civic and voter engagement. In the spring, MSU President Kevin Guskiewicz was named a Standout President by ALL IN for promoting voter engagement on campus in collaboration with MSUvote, and spring 2025 graduate Lucas Gravatt was named to the 2025 ALL IN Student Voting Honor Roll. These recognitions highlighted the strength of MSUvote’s partnerships, institutional commitment, and student leadership.
A notable addition this year was the Spring Spotlight Series, a pilot civic learning program developed to sustain engagement beyond election cycles. The series featured panels, activities, and policy discussions designed to help students connect civic identity with policy impact and community leadership. Highlights from these events included analysis of trends surrounding the 2024 election results and discussion of the history of women’s voting rights in recognition of Women’s History Month. Overall, the program served as a model for nonelection year engagement to be further developed in 2025–2026.
Looking back, MSUvote’s 2024–2025 cycle reflected both sustained growth and intentional innovation. In preparing for the 2026 midterm elections, the committee is focused on strengthening campuswide collaboration, expanding civic learning opportunities, and ensuring all Spartans have the information and access they need to vote.
