Homelessness, poverty, trauma, and food insecurities are just a few issues that many underserved families are facing. Our nationally accredited organization works with over 750+ children in need to provide a two generational approach (parent and child) to break the cycle of poverty by providing a range of free wrap around services such as a food pantry, pediatric medical care, dental care, mental health services, clothing closets, advocacy, education, and even a hair salon. Participants can work directly with the children aged 6 weeks old through 8th grade as well as assist in projects that help provide many crucial services to over 400 families.

Expected service: mornings in classrooms with the children assisting teachers, playing with the kids, reading to them, etc. Afternoons helping with projects around the center.

Alternative Spartan Breaks provides accessible, quality service opportunities, education about social issues, and exposure to diverse cultures and communities to promote the active citizenship of Michigan State University students.

Since 1991, Alternative Spartan Breaks has provided Spartans with quality service experiences around the country and the world. Modeled after the Citizenship Schools in the 1960's, Spartans are educated on a wide range of social issues as well as our 8 components before attending their experience. Through education and service it is our hope that our Breakers continue to give back to their communities and become community collaborators.

As an organization, ASB would like to express gratitude for the commitment of our Spring Weeklong Site Leaders. As such we are offering a $50 stipend as a token of our appreciation for the dedication put into serving this position. This stipend works to acknowledge and support the efforts of our site leaders to foster a collaborative and rewarding environment. Amounts correlate to different duties the Site Leader must complete. If all are completed, the full $50 stipend will be granted.
