Many people demean the symptoms of poverty and issues that cities face. The worst part is the obvious lack of empathy and education about the root causes. This community connector strives to help people see good work happening within the city through partners addressing inequities in food access, affordable housing, and education.

Expected service: assisting with meal service/hospitality for housing insecurity orgs., partner for school/after school programs, winter prep work at local garden, and shift at the local food bank.

Alternative Spartan Breaks provides accessible, quality service opportunities, education about social issues, and exposure to diverse cultures and communities to promote the active citizenship of Michigan State University students.

Since 1991, Alternative Spartan Breaks has provided Spartans with quality service experiences around the country and the world. Modeled after the Citizenship Schools in the 1960's, Spartans are educated on a wide range of social issues as well as our 8 components before attending their experience. Through education and service it is our hope that our Breakers continue to give back to their communities and become community collaborators.

As an organization, ASB would like to express gratitude for the commitment of our Spring Weeklong Site Leaders. As such we are offering a $50 stipend as a token of our appreciation for the dedication put into serving this position. This stipend works to acknowledge and support the efforts of our site leaders to foster a collaborative and rewarding environment. Amounts correlate to different duties the Site Leader must complete. If all are completed, the full $50 stipend will be granted.
