A small start-up nonprofit providing environmental and experiential learning activities for youth and their families in areas such as composting, tree growing, and sustainability. The nonprofit runs with a greenhouse and an environmental classroom, having sustained itself through grants for the past three years. Students will help the organization establish their first office by cleaning, painting, and repurposing a van which will be used for transforming it into a versatile office space for project planning, meetings, guest hosting, and meals. There's also the potential for students to engage in composting and botanical activities as required.

Expected service: helping clean out a van that is going to be used as a meeting space, planting trees, doing various activties with children, helping maintain the eco lodge.

Alternative Spartan Breaks provides accessible, quality service opportunities, education about social issues, and exposure to diverse cultures and communities to promote the active citizenship of Michigan State University students.

Since 1991, Alternative Spartan Breaks has provided Spartans with quality service experiences around the country and the world. Modeled after the Citizenship Schools in the 1960's, Spartans are educated on a wide range of social issues as well as our 8 components before attending their experience. Through education and service it is our hope that our Breakers continue to give back to their communities and become community collaborators.

As an organization, ASB would like to express gratitude for the commitment of our Spring Weeklong Site Leaders. As such we are offering a $50 stipend as a token of our appreciation for the dedication put into serving this position. This stipend works to acknowledge and support the efforts of our site leaders to foster a collaborative and rewarding environment. Amounts correlate to different duties the Site Leader must complete. If all are completed, the full $50 stipend will be granted.
