Compensation: $15/hour
Hours: 5 hours per week
Position Summary
The Democratic Engagement Interns will play a key role in strengthening democratic participation at Michigan State University by encouraging voter registration, education, and turnout. These positions are non-partisan and operate as part of a collaborative campus and community committee. Interns will help increase the number of registered student voters, provide accessible information on candidates and issues, and support initiatives to boost student participation in local, state, and national elections.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and Execute Events: Organize and host Student Voter Education and Engagement event (s).
- Outreach & Presentations: Deliver classroom and program presentations on voter registration and participation.
- Tabling & Visibility: Staff information tables at campus events to promote voter engagement and distribute materials.
- Student Organization Collaboration: Partner with Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) to facilitate voter education and registration activities.
- Digital Engagement: Design and support social media campaigns designed to inform and mobilize student voters. Manage updates to the MSUvote.msu.edu webpage
- Media & Storytelling: Participate in a student-led podcast focused on voting and democratic events.
- Team Collaboration: Attend MSUvote meetings and Intern Meetings.
Qualifications
- Must be a currently enrolled student at Michigan State University.
- Passionate about civic engagement, democratic participation, and student voice.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with peers, faculty, and staff.
- Proactive, organized, and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Commitment to working in a non-partisan environment
