MSUvote Hiring Democratic Engagement Interns

Job Title: Democratic Engagement Interns

Department: Center for Community Engaged Learning & Office of Community and Student Relations

Location: Michigan State University Position Type: Part-Time, Fall Semester 2024

Stipend: $500 per semester

Job Summary: The Democratic Engagement Interns will play a pivotal role in promoting voter registration and participation among students at Michigan State University. This position is part of a non-partisan campus and community committee aimed at increasing the number of registered student voters, educating students on candidates and issues, and boosting participation on Election Day.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Organize and host a Student Voter Registration Rally.
  • Deliver classroom and program presentations on voter registration and participation.
  • Staff tables at campus events to provide voter registration information.
  • Work with Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) to facilitate voter education and registration events.
  • Assist with programming and events at the Early Voting Center.
  • Support social media campaigns to promote voter engagement.
  • Participate in a student podcast focused on voting and democratic engagement.

Training and Development

  • Attend a training session in early September to prepare for the fall semester activities.
  • Receive ongoing support and guidance from the MSUvote team and co-directors.
  • Attend bi-weekly meetings with project overseer(s)

Qualifications

  • Must be a current student at Michigan State University.
  • Passionate about civic engagement and willing to dedicate time to promoting democratic participation among peers.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
  • Proactive and able to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities.
