WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Michigan State University has been recognized by the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge (ALL IN) as a 2024 ALL IN Most Engaged Campus for College Student Voting. The ALL IN Most Engaged Campuses for College Student Voting recognizes colleges and universities for outstanding efforts to increase nonpartisan student voter participation. Michigan State University joins a group of 471 colleges and universities recognized by ALL IN for completing four core actions:

“The research is clear: colleges and universities that make intentional efforts to increase nonpartisan democratic engagement have higher campus voter registration and voter turnout rates. This year we saw more colleges than ever before step up their efforts to ensure that their students were registered and ready to make their voices heard at the ballot box,” said Jennifer Domagal-Goldman, Executive Director of the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge. “These Most Engaged Campuses are setting the standard for nonpartisan civic engagement work for colleges and universities across the country.”

This accomplishment would not be possible without the efforts of MSUvote, a nonpartisan campus committee whose mission is to increase the number of registered student voters, inform and educate students on candidates and issues, and bolster student participation on Election Day. MSUvote hosts, sponsors, and promotes a variety of activities, including:

  • Voter registration and education drives

  • Connecting local clerks to student organizations in order to increase registration

  • Registering students at orientation

  • Sponsoring the Secretary of State’s Mobile Unit on campus

  • Hosting, sponsoring or supporting debate watch activities, candidate and issue forums

  • Encouraging turnout on Election Day and celebrating student voters through events

Ahead of the 2024 election, MSUvote began their contact with prospective students at Green and White Days, a week of informational events hosted by the Office of Admissions in July, and shared voter knowledge cards at events and resource fairs during Fall Welcome Week and through the fall semester. Michigan State University also hosted the City of East Lansing Early Voting Center at WKAR Public Media from October 21 through November 3, which MSUvote consistently promoted through social media and in the October 20 episode of the Impact 89FM podcast Exposure. Throughout this election cycle, MSUvote worked to support Michigan State University voters on- and off-campus through biweekly Campus and Community Initiative meetings open to students, community members, clerks, alumni, and retirees.
