The Center for Community Engaged Learning teamed up with the Alumni Office to host our Fall Spartan Day of Service on October 5th, 2024. We had 325 student volunteers serving at 12 sites in the Greater Lansing Area and 2 sites in Detroit. These volunteers collectively worked 1,950 hours on a variety of projects, including neighborhood cleanup and community resource flyering with the Allen Neighborhood Center, preparation for Potter Park Zoo’s Boo at the Zoo event, fall garden cleanup at South Lansing Urban Gardens, and assisting with classroom tasks at Pattengill Biotechnical Magnet School.

Overall, our Spartan volunteers made an estimated $61,600 of financial impact in the community. “It’s really nice to have the help to get projects done that we just don’t have time for,” said Lena Edson, Program Manager at the Equine Center for Learning. Students volunteering at the Equine Center for Learning painted the outdoor riding arena and spread mulch on a new sensory trail. “The sensory trail is something that the whole organization has wanted for a really long time.”
