James Madison College DreaMSU

Students can take the knowledge that they learn in the classroom and use that knowledge to make the community a better place, even right here on campus. DreaMSU is one such example of a student organization that has turned education into advocacy since their creation in 2018.

Student Life and Engagement Reusable Container Pilot

Thanks to a student-led charge, MSU will be piloting reusable containers for mobile orders in the dining halls for the first time in the Fall 2022 semester. A group of students from several organizations met weekly during the Spring 2022 semester to research and develop a plan to use reusable containers on campus. Within that one semester, the group developed a plan and a presentation that will be piloted in the fall.

Community-engaged learning is an integral part of every course Lissy Goralnik, Ph.D., instructs. Goralnik is an Assistant Professor in environmental studies and community engagement in the Department of Community Sustainability and currently teaches two undergraduate-level and one graduate-level course in Community Sustainability (CSUS).

College of Natural Science Tools for Women in STEM

Filomena Nunes, Ph.D., is the instructor for NSC 844: Tools for Women in STEM. In the graduate-level course, topics covered include career management, networking, mentoring, leadership, emotional intelligence, and numerous other skills taught through the lens of empowering women to launch their careers in STEM. The course also covers several issues facing women in the field, including harassment.
