Honors College HC IMPACT Week of Service

Since its first iteration in 2017, the HC IMPACT Week of Service has provided a way for incoming Honors College freshmen to become acquainted with community-engaged learning before they even start their first classes at MSU.

Group projects can be difficult even when they are not taking place in the midst of a global pandemic. There are always obstacles and uncertainties, but these complications have been amplified in the past year. Despite all that, a team of students from the Sustainable Spartans Club built a wall that our campus can be proud of.

Many Michigan State students were out on the frontlines fighting the pandemic, including those in the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) and Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) programs in the College of Nursing.

MSU has partnered with schools in Tanzania through the Tanzania Partnership Program (TPP) since 2007. The MSU College of Education has been heavily involved in the collaborative alliance since its inception, with the promotion of quality education a central tenet of the program.

College of Arts and Letters Community Language School

The MSU Community Language School provides language education programs for children, teens, and adults throughout the Greater Lansing area. Language teachers include both undergraduate and graduate students, as well as some faculty members. The language teachers are also aided by undergraduate student volunteers.

College of Communication Arts and Sciences Social Computing and the East Lansing Film Festival

In 2020 students in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences had an abundance of real-time case studies in crisis communication. The ways in which we communicate when times are difficult are crucial to how we maintain hope, and students were able to get more than a glimpse of that in the past year.

College of Human Medicine Community Health Pandemic Response

Service has always been an integral part of the College of Human Medicine (CHM). Students at seven campuses/locations serve with different health organizations to fulfill a requirement for their degree and gain valuable experience and insight into the world of medicine. The COVID-19 pandemic dramatically shifted students from the typical community-engaged learning experience that the program normally offered.

College of Veterinary Medicine Collaboration with the Potter Park and Binder Park Zoos

The MSU College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) and the Potter Park Zoo have been partnered for over half a century now, a collaboration that was recognized with the Distinguished Partnership Award for Community-Engaged Research at the 2021 University Outreach and Engagement Awards.

College of Social Science Student Organic Farm Design Projects

At 15 acres, the Student Organic Farm has been perhaps the largest classroom on campus since 1999. The farm is a place for students to gain hands-on farming experience and insight into Community Supported Agriculture and the U.S. food system.
