Greater Lansing is very fortunate to have two hospitals, McLaren Greater Lansing and University of Michigan Health - Sparrow, that welcome college students to serve alongside their healthcare professionals. Both partners offer a variety of volunteer opportunities within their organization, along with many days and times in which students can serve.

Steps to Get Started:

  1. Complete the Sparrow College Application
    Visit Sparrow College Application to fill out the form. You can also browse available volunteer opportunities on the site.

  2. Background Check and Eligibility
    After submitting your application, Sparrow will conduct a criminal background check and confirm that you meet all eligibility requirements to volunteer.

  3. Application Deadlines
    Registration opens on the first day of December, April, and August. To be eligible, ensure your application and all required materials are submitted by the 15th of the prior month (November, March, July).

  4. Approval and Next Steps
    Once approved, you will receive an email from the CCEL staff with further instructions on how to register for your volunteer position.

  • Spring 2025: In preparation for registration to open in January please work on completing all the requirements listed on the McLaren Volunteer Checklist. All of these items must be completed/turned in before registering for a position. Dates for the orientation and links to register can be found in the checklist.
  • Returning Volunteers: For those of you who have completed the checklist in previous semesters and/or have already volunteered, you will be receiving information during the first week of classes.
