Sociology, Arts and Humanities

Alana Mapp is a first-generation senior at Michigan State University. She is double majoring in Sociology and Arts and Humanities with a pathway in community engagement and a minor in African American and African Studies. Alana is an Honors student and a member of the National Sociology Honor Society. She is an undergraduate research assistant in the Sister Circle Mentoring Program, which focuses on creating an inclusive community and centers its programming on the professional development and wellbeing of WOC at the university. Alana is also involved with Grits, Glam, and Guts, a local non-profit that partners with local high schools to empower and mentor young girls. These experiences have helped shape her passion and research interests focus on mental health, the empowerment of Black youth, and social justice.
