Michelle Snitgen

Michelle Snitgen is assistant director within Michigan State University's (MSU) Center for Community Engaged Learning (CCEL) responsible for supporting and advancing community-engaged learning (CEL) within courses and curriculum across MSU. Her career has included 20 years of working within Michigan’s vibrant non-profit sector, engaging in partnerships between local communities and state and federal organizations, and addressing myriad social issues related to public health, community and economic development, philanthropy, creative placemaking, college access, and active living. Michelle draws upon this experience to serve as a resource and consultant for MSU community-engaged faculty, partner organizations, and students, aiming to bridge theory and practice and create connections among spaces, places, people, and ideas.
Prior to joining CCEL in 2018, she served as program director for the MSU College Advising Corps AmeriCorps program, active communities coordinator with the Michigan Fitness Foundation, higher education consultant with the State of Michigan King-Chavez-Parks Initiative, and assistant director of the Michigan Campus Compact. She holds Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees in Interpersonal and Public Communication from Central Michigan University and is a current doctoral student in MSU’s Higher, Adult, and Lifelong Education program.
Michelle engages in the International Association for Research on Service-Learning and Community Engagement International Service-Learning Research graduate student network, and is an active participant within Campus Compact TRUCEN Sustained Conversations. Locally, she is connected within the greater Lansing community as a non-profit board member, volunteer, and coach.
